Frame-Off Auto Restoration

Frame-Off Restoration or Rotisserie Restoration

Frame-off auto restoration involves us removing the car’s body from the frame. With the body of your classic car removed, we can strip the frame of its existing finish and inspect it for cracks, broken welds and rust issues. Refinishing the frame with modern, durable primers and paints will ensure it will last for decades to come. The exposed frame will also allow us to install new brake and fuel lines more efficiently, and see if any bolts, nuts or clips need replacement. This process also provides direct access to install the exhaust system. With the body removed, we can also strip and refinish the undercarriage without the frame, driveshaft and rear axle in the way.

That’s Minor Customs specializes in frame-off and rotisserie auto restorations!

The Process

The first question we usually hear is about the cost. That will depend on a number of factors, starting with the current condition of the vehicle and the level of quality you want in the final process. Are you looking for a concourse car, show, street show, or a very nice driver? Depending on the level you want ,a restoration project can cost $50 to $100k or more for a partial. Complete restorations can cost $150 to $200k or more. Contact us to discuss your restoration goals. Here are the major components of a complete restoration project:

Preparation
Classic cars are several decades old and require special attention during disassembly. Everything has to be removed from the body, interior and chassis. The body and frame need to be sandblasted to remove paint, rust, dirt, etc, during this process any old body work is exposed and any rust holes show up. This is when we get a good picture of the extent of body work needed to repair the old work or rust damages.
